Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was raised in Pasadena (California). She and her family moved overseas when she was only three. Summer went to American and British schools while her family was living abroad. They returned home to Pasadena California, just before her 14th birthday. In love with the idea of being an actor since at the age of 5, Summer took her first acting class at the age of 14. Nine months later, she enlisted an agent/manager and embarked on a full-time profession. She is currently working towards her degree at the college level in her spare time. She was named one of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominated for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil began acting classes at the age of 14. Within a year, Bishil was signed to the contract of a manager or agency. Bishil began her career in the Nickelodeon TV show Just for Kicks. After that she was signed to an agreement with a manager and agency. Her breakthrough role was in the film of Alan Ball, Towelhead. It is an adaptation of the novel with the same name. Dana Stevens, a Slate critic, stated that "Her performance in a film which, for all its good intentions seems completely fake, mildly embarrassing, and as if it were an extended PSA concerning inappropriate touching is the truthful thing." Bob Strauss writes for many Los Angeles newspapers and states that Bishil "...is the top natural actresses in film ever. In an article published on September 12, Los Angeles Times review, Gary Goldstein stated that Summer Bishil, who is a "...newcomer who is a newcomer, delivers an impressive and sassy performance as Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over project in 2009 and starred Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was chosen to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel was never released.
