Sofia Margarita Vergara, Spanish was born on 10 July, 1972. She is an actress presenter, producer, model, and television host from Colombia. Vergara was the highest-paid actress on American television from 2013 until 2020.Vergara rose to prominence while hosting two TV shows for Spanish-speaking television network Univision in the late 1990s. Chasing Papi (2003) was her first significant acting role in English. After that, she was featured in Four Brothers (2005), Tyler Perry's comedies Meet the Browns (2008) and Madea Goes to Jail (2009 that earned her an ALMA Award nomination). The first time she appeared was as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in ABC's comedy series Modern Family, for which she received nominations for four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards and eleven Screen Actor Guild Awards. In addition, she was a voice-over actor in animated films Happy Feet Two (2011), Escape from Planet Earth (2013) as well as The Emoji Movie (2017). Vergara was born into a Roman Catholic family in Barranquilla. Vergara's mom Margarita Vergara was a homemaker , and her father Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo was a cattle rancher. The nickname she received was "Toti" by her five siblings as well as many cousins. Vergara was originally a student at the National University of Colombia in dentistry. She left after two semesters to pursue modeling and show business.
